PATINA

Patina. Time. Memories. Stories. Layers. History. Archeology. Geology. Biology. Emotions & memories are factored into the experience of seeing, being and inhabiting a landscape painting or drawing of a place and appreciating it’s beauty even when re- imagined. Tapping into the landscape’s history, memories or stories sometimes add more to a painting’s vision, composition, content, color selections, mood, or even the title.

“Ah, but I was so much older then: I’m younger than that now.” - Bob Dylan

The Love Letters series

This series began with an idea of having a conversation with past loves. The colors, the words, the papers, the moods and memories evoked from these past loves all added to the evolution of each painting. The moods I was capturing included feelings of melancholy, bittersweet love, grief, and with some of the feelings much harder to pin down. All of the paintings were poured with layers of stories, emotions, fragments of places both near and far, bits of imaginary and remembered conversations, and colors I felt coming from my heart if it could speak.

Blue Forest in Meadow collage series

This collage is the first of a new series I have started on the Blue Forest in Meadow watercolor painting. It starts with a photo of the original painting centered and then layered over itself to create a series of limited prints. This is the first print of this new series. The concept for this print series is to create an abstraction of the forest, meadow and soil’s connected biome to highlight how biodiversity during the Anthropocene is being affected by human activity by the climate crisis.

Make It

Where Land and Sea meet

I find the edge between land and sea to be an exhilarating, fascinating and highly enchanting experience. This is an inspiring diving off point for me to continue to explore this year and on into 2026 in my travels and art work - both painting and photography. Stay tuned!
